Store solar for the evening and reduce peak-time grid use.
Solar panels often produce their best output around midday, while many homes use more electricity later on. A battery bridges that gap by keeping spare daytime generation for the evening, instead of sending it to the grid at a lower rate than you pay for evening imports.
Solar and battery installations are also currently zero-rated for VAT, a relief that runs until 31 March 2027.

One design, not two separate purchases.
When solar and storage are designed together, the inverter, battery size and panel array are chosen to work as one system, so spare generation is kept for later rather than sent straight out.
Already have solar? A battery can usually be retrofitted without replacing your current array. We check your inverter and setup first to confirm compatibility.
No solar at all? A battery can charge from the grid on a cheap overnight tariff and cover peak-rate hours, although payback is usually faster when it is paired with solar generation.
Bigger is not automatically better.
Two Kent homes on this site have 10 solar panels each. One has a 3.3kWh battery, the other 11.52kWh. Neither is wrong, because the right battery follows the household: how much power it uses after the sun goes down, whether an EV is charging, and what the tariff rewards.
Households differ widely. A family home might use 3,500 to 5,000 kWh over a year, and many homes draw 3 to 7 kWh between dusk and morning, which is the gap a battery fills. Someone in through the evening will want more capacity than a household that is out until six, so we size from your usage rather than a standard recommendation.
Making your tariff work harder.
Most modern batteries can charge from the grid on a cheap overnight tariff and discharge through the peak-rate evening hours. Some can also export stored charge under a Smart Export Guarantee tariff when it is worth more than it cost to store. Whether either is worthwhile depends on your tariff, which we go through with you.
What a battery will and will not do in a power cut.
Backup during a power cut is not automatic. It depends on the battery, the inverter and how the system is wired, so say so at the design stage if it matters to you. What is included is confirmed in your proposal.
Depending on the project, battery options include Duracell, Fox ESS and Growatt systems, with others such as Tesla Powerwall available on some jobs. Most modern batteries come with app-based monitoring, so you can see what is being stored and used.
The battery cost does not have to land all at once.
Where qualifying options exist, a battery can sit inside the same finance route as a solar system, or be priced separately if you are adding one to existing panels. Ask about current payment options when your proposal is prepared, including qualifying no-upfront-cost routes and selected short-term 0% offers.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind Kent Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.
Battery questions, answered.
Is battery storage worth adding?
It depends on when your household uses electricity. If most of your use is in the evening, a battery lets you keep daytime solar generation instead of sending it to the grid. We work through whether it makes sense for your home as part of your proposal.
How long do home batteries last?
Manufacturers typically warrant a home battery for about a decade or a fixed number of cycles, whichever is reached first, and plenty keep working past that point. The warranty for the product you choose is confirmed in your proposal.
Where does the battery get installed?
Most often a garage, utility room or an external wall near the consumer unit and inverter, which keeps cable runs short. The survey confirms the best spot in your home.
Pair the battery with the rest of the plan.
