Add smart EV charging to your Kent home-energy setup.
Charging at home means no more planning journeys around public chargers. Add solar and a battery and the car can become part of the wider home-energy system, using your own generation whenever it is available.
Free and no obligation. Payment options available on qualifying routes.
Charge from your own roof when the sun is out.
A compatible smart charger and inverter can be set to favour your own generation, so the car takes surplus solar first and the grid only tops it up when the panels cannot keep pace.
Already have solar or a battery? We check your existing setup for compatibility before recommending a charger.
Design it once, with the car in mind.
If solar, a battery and a charger are all likely, planning them together helps with equipment compatibility, cable routes and how much capacity the system needs. If an EV is coming later, tell us now, because it can change the useful array and battery size.
One Maidstone install on this site combines 8 solar panels, a 5kWh battery and an EV charger in a single system.
Cheaper hours, scheduled charging.
On a smart tariff, a compatible charger can be set to charge when electricity is cheaper, as well as topping up from surplus solar in the day. Your tariff decides how much that is worth, and we go through it with you.
What the grant covers today.
The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost of a home charger, up to £500, but it has been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350). Homeowners in a standard house are no longer eligible. We'll confirm what, if anything, applies to your situation as part of your proposal.
Payment options for the wider project, including qualifying no-upfront-cost routes, can be discussed when your proposal is prepared.
Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind Kent Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.
What the install needs.
EV charging questions, answered.
Can my solar panels charge my car?
Yes. With the right charger and inverter combination the car can charge from surplus solar, and a smart charger can be set to avoid the grid unless you choose otherwise.
Tethered or untethered?
A tethered charger keeps its cable attached, so you simply plug in. An untethered one is a socket that takes the cable that came with your car. Neither charges faster, so the choice is convenience against a tidier-looking unit.
How fast is home charging?
Almost every UK home charger runs at 7kW, adding roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. A full charge of a typical 60kWh battery from empty takes around 8 to 10 hours, which is why most owners charge overnight.
Can I install a charger without off-street parking?
Without a driveway or private space beside the house, the question is whether a cable can reach the car safely without crossing a public footpath. That depends on the property, so we check it at the survey.
